Bass. Panfish. The Poker Run. An (almost) lost phone...

Writer's picture: Christopher MarinoChristopher Marino

Yesterday's trip was quite the adventure. Ron, Fran, and Wyatt came out for bass and panfish action. Ron is a former tournament fisherman and if yesterday is any indication, Wyatt will be able to hold his own. I think we have a future Bassmaster on our hands.

Over the course of four hours time, Ron and Wyatt caught 80 fish ranging from small rock bass to 4 lb smallmouth. At one point in the day, we were over a school and we counted 24 fish in 34 minutes! This is the type of action that keeps kids hooked on fishing and the outdoors. The reason why we offer panfishing as an option. #takeakidfishing

It was a beautiful day on Lake Winnipesaukee. We even got a glimpse of the Poker Run. If you are unfamiliar with the Poker Run, it is an annual, local event to benefit Easterseals NH’s core programs. Participants travel by boat, car, or motorcycle to four different checkpoints on or around Lake Winnipesaukee and collect sealed envelopes containing playing cards. The fifth and final card stop for all players was at the NASWA Resort in Laconia’s NazBar & Grill, where they revealed their hand to a panel of judges for a chance to win cash prizes of $750, or $1,000 for High Rollers Club members. I want to give a special shout out to Mary at Robert's Cove Basin. As to be expected, on a busy Saturday, things were quite congested at the launching ramp. We had boats waiting for gas, boats launching, and those that were looking to pull out. Not to mention a disabled boat in need of assistance. Mary coordinated the traffic beautifully. And to add to it all, as I was dropping my guests off, Ron dropped his phone in the water and it sank to the bottom. Mary didn't miss a beat. She got her mask and snorkel and went in after it! She saved the day and Ron got his phone back. Gotta love the above and beyond service you get in Roberts Cove!

It was a special day to be on the water with this family and my pleasure to host them. Looking forward to seeing them again next year.
